Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a fulltime experienced Pathologist with expertise in Flow Cytometry to serve as the Director of Flow Cytometry Laboratories for both Northern (located in Edmonton) and Southern (located in Calgary) Alberta. Together these two laboratories provide all the Clinical Flow Cytometry testing services for the province, which has an estimated population of 4.5 million, as well as testing for samples referred in from other jurisdictions. The successful candidate will provide medical leadership across both sites, with an emphasis on standardization of testing. Additional responsibilities will include diagnostic case review and interpretation, assay validation and implementation, quality assurance, and compliance with regulatory standards. The role includes the opportunity to mentor technologists and hematopathologists, while fostering collaboration with clinicians, researchers, and academic partners.
Through these efforts, the successful candidate will help drive innovation and advance both research and education in laboratory medicine. The successful candidate may choose to be based primarily in either Edmonton or Calgary. Thanks to robust virtual collaboration, most responsibilities can be carried out seamlessly across both sites, regardless of location. Occasional travel to the alternate site will be required to support in-person collaboration and team integration. By uniting the strengths of both laboratories, our vision is to establish the leading Clinical Flow Cytometry laboratory in Canada.
Job Summary & Responsibilities
Pathologists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching.
Qualifications
Qualifications include a MD with eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Hematopathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty Fellowship training and/or Certification in Hematopathology and Flow Cytometry.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

- Ability to work in a dynamic, changing environment that allows for delivery of quality service
- Ability to balance service and quality imperative in a resource-sensitive environment
- Ability to work collaboratively, building trust in working relationships, and being an overall team player
Compensation
An excellent remuneration package including relocation allowance is provided. Remuneration range for a Laboratory Physician / Pathologist in Alberta is $364,597.00.00 to $424,123.00 per annum. Starting remuneration will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of training and experience.
