Autopsy Pathologist
Houston Methodist Hospital – Texas Medical Center
Methodist Pathology Associates (MPA), Houston, Texas, is seeking a full-time pathologist to provide autopsy services for the Houston Methodist Hospital System (HMHS). The successful candidate will have a proven track record of providing outstanding autopsy and diagnostic services, and of working effectively with colleagues, technical personnel, and other professionals. Candidates with fellowship training in autopsy pathology or forensic pathology are encouraged to apply. Additional surgical pathology services will be considered based on the candidate’s background and expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide primary coverage of the hospital system autopsy service.
- Perform comprehensive post-mortem examinations.
- Generate timely, detailed autopsy reports and communicate findings to clinical teams, families, and pathology colleagues.
- Teach and supervise residents and fellows on autopsy rotations.
- Contribute to the academic mission through scholarship, research, and/or quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO (or equivalent) and Board certification in AP, AP/CP, AP/FP, or AP/NP.
- Has or is eligible for a Texas medical license.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
About Us
MPA is the exclusive provider of pathology services for the HMHS and currently has 90 faculty and 40 trainees. The HMHS has eight hospitals (approximately 2,700 beds) in the Houston area. Our outlying hospitals continue to expand, and a new hospital tower in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) will add 400 beds and open in 2027. The new tower also contains a new autopsy suite. The training programs and autopsy service are based at our academic medical center/quaternary hospital in the TMC.
HMHS has a primary academic affiliation with Weill Cornell Medical College, and the successful candidate may be eligible for a faculty appointment. Opportunities exist for optional collaborative research interactions and other academic endeavors.
